How do Ohioans rate their public libraries and what do they want for the
future?
We just completed 704 in-depth interviews on November 10 with people all
over
Ohio, including data broken out by all regions of the state and
different
size communities.
Thursday and Friday at the Ohio Library Council Conference in Cleveland,
it
will be time for those magical words from TV . . . Survey Says!
Here are a few, quick highlights from the 39 different questions and ten
demographic factors that have been compiled and analyzed:
Loving and Using Libraries:
37% rate libraries excellent and 86% say excellent or good. Only 1.6%
said
poor. These high ratings are significantly better than achieved for
other Ohio
services, especially compared to the legislature. 25% visit library
three or
more times every month. 56% visit monthly or more.
Technology:
It is huge and growing, especially with certain key audience segments.
64% of
Ohioans have used the Internet in the past six months. Of those Ohioans
using the Internet, 62% go there daily or more. There is detailed
information on
use and by whom for DVDs, high-speed web access, library websites, what
they
do on the web, etc.
Marketing & Retailing Trends for Libraries:
Do Ohioans want their libraries to adapt from the best in retailing and
what
would that mean for improved service and the look of your facilities?
How are
local library levies and taxes viewed/potential, what services should be
added, future audiences targeted, etc.? We will have answers for all of
this and
much, much more.
There will be two presentations of SURVEY SAYS! at the OLC Conference at
the
Renaissance Cleveland Hotel:
Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, 4:15-5:15 pm
Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, 2:00-3:00 pm
If in Cleveland Thursday or Friday, hopefully you and/or a key staff
member
or Trustee can attend, see the results and offer your comments/reactions
to its
meaning for long-range planning during these challenging times.
If you are interested in a customer satisfaction survey in your area
and/or
more on this new Ohio data, please let me know via e-mail or call at

THANKS!
