Description:
Are you confused by the rapidly increasing number of reference books and Web
sites on religion? What do they cover and which ones are best? Do you're
your patrons ask questions about Muslims and their view of America, or on
what foods are kosher for Jews, or how the various sects of Christianity
differ?
Learn about print and electronic religious resources in general, with
particular attention to Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Topics include not
only resources on the basics of these religions, but also the culture and
customs of their adherents, with an emphasis on the modern world. Computer
hands-on time as well as lecture/demo.
Instructors: Presented by working librarians with subject-area expertise:
Marti Alt, General Humanities Bibliographer at Ohio State University
Libraries (Christian resources), Dona Straley, the Middle East Studies
Librarian at Ohio State University (Islamic Studies), Suzanne Smailes, of
Wittenberg University, (Jewish religious materials).
Who Should Attend:Librarians and staff in acquisitions or reference
services, who would like to know more about religious materials for
libraries. For beginners and those who would like an update or refresher in
the subject area. Suitable for public libraries, school libraries and
colleges.
Prerequisite:None
Special pricing
Member Cost: $35 (all K-12 schools in Ohio are members)
