				ANNOUNCING!!!!

EVERY CHILD READY TO READ @ YOUR LIBRARY WORKSHOP

WHERE:	State Library Of Ohio
		274 E. First Avenue, Suite100
		Columbus, Ohio 43201

WHEN:	Thursday, October 14, 2004
		10 A.M. TO 4 P.M.

The State Library of Ohio would like to announce that we are offering a
workshop on the EVERY CHILD READY TO READ @ YOUR LIBRARY initiative =
which
was sponsored by the Public Library Association and the Association for
Library Service to Children. =20

These two groups have incorporated the latest research on literacy and =
brain
development into a series of parent and caregiver workshops to provide
public libraries with vital tools to help prepare parents for their =
critical
role as their child's first teacher. These tools were developed by
well-known researchers in emergent literacy, and have been tested and
refined at library demonstration sites around the country.=20

The premise of these research-based materials is to enlist parents and
caregivers as partners in preparing their children for learning to read =
and
to provide the most effective methods to achieve this end. The goal is =
to
promote the concept to the local library that they play a key role in
disseminating early literacy information within their communities.=20

This workshop will introduce participants to this project, the =
research, and
the various programs and components of this national initiative.

The speaker of the day will be Sue McCleaf Nespeca, head of KidLit Plus
Consulting. Well known for her interest in early literacy, Sue =
provides
speeches, in-services, training, and consulting to librarians, teachers =
and
early childhood educators on topics such as early literacy, family =
literacy,
children=B9s literature and library services to youth. With over 28 =
years
experience in youth services library work, Sue's currently offers =
consulting
work to the Northwest Library District (NORWELD) and to NOLA Regional
Library System. In addition, she is part-time faculty at Kent State =
(Ohio)
University=B9s School of Library and Information Sciences and at =
Syracuse (New
York) University. She has a Master's Degree in Early Childhood =
Education
from Kent State and a Master=B9s Degree in Library Science from the =
University
of Pittsburgh. Her newest book, written with co-author Joan Reeve, is
Picture Books Plus: 100 Extension Activities in Art, Drama, Music, Math =
