Hi Angela!

We explored this issue recently and found that an awful lot of our
patrons who use audiobooks use them while traveling, and they don't seem
to have the variety of CD players in their cars or CD walkmans which can
play MP3s (although one can buy them most anywhere these days). I
suspect this will change quite a bit in the next 24 - 36 months, but in
the current situation we just aren't seeing a demand for them.

MP3 audiobooks are a great idea -- I'd like to see them come into vogue.
:-)

As for cassettes, we have a lot of patrons (like me) who have tape decks
(but no CD player) in their cars, so we are still buying some at this
time. I also expect that to drop off in the medium term.

Cheers!

We purchase titles from several different vendors but lately I have seen that several vendors are listing cassette, compact disc, and mp3 cd formats. The mp3 cd format appears to use fewer discs and the price is lower. We have not had patrons ask for this format yet but I am curious if other libraries are offering the format. If you are did you decide based on patron demand? What issues or problems have you run into with the format?
