sessions on E-Rate funds.  All public libraries are eligible!  In past
years, all applications submitted by eligible institutions have been

Every Child Ready to Read

Monday, November 8

PLA's groundbreaking effort on early childhood literacy will be the focus of
this day.  Discover how the research findings of the Teaching Children to
Read report has been incorporated into a model library program with
far-reaching effects for parents and caregivers.

With libraries busier than ever, it is very hard for staff to find the time
to practice their search skills.  Through a Gates Foundation award, the
State Library of Ohio is offering training on four OPLIN databases:  Access
Science, Oxford Reference, Literature Online, and Newsbank.  Get to know the
ins-and-outs of these OPLIN resources.

Marketing - Competing for the Hearts and Minds of Patrons and Non-Users
Wednesday, November 10

Marketing expert William Schroer will discuss strategies to "win over"
library users and non-users.  Assess customer behavior and interest within
the context of your library products and services.  Understand the
components of a marketing plan and what your marketing budget should be.

Foundation Fundraising:  An Introductory Class

Tuesday, November 16

Never has fundraising been more critical to libraries.  The Foundation
Center of Cleveland will offer expert advice on how to find appropriate
grantmakers, what methods are best to approach each grantmaker, and how to
use available resources to best find a funding partner.  Participants in
this workshop will receive a one week subscription to the Foundation
Directory Online Platinum Service.
