The Community Role of the Branch Library Today

11/4/2004

9:30 AM  to 4:00 PM
MOLO Regional Library System Training Center, Newcomerstown, OH

Scheduled Speaker: Jay Burton, State Library of Ohio

 Is your branch library the heartbeat of your community? In today's wake
of budget cuts, many branch managers are finding that staff are busier
than ever, and not suffering from the advent of the Internet. The branch
library is a community center where adult patrons gather and feel safe
and welcomed, join book discussion groups, access information, browse
books, conduct research, and meet friends. And the younger patrons come
to do homework or join a storytelling session. Join Jay Burton, Head,
Library Programs and Development for the State Library of Ohio, as he
discusses service response in the branch library, challenges you face
and where your branch fits into your library's stragetic plan. During
the afternoon, Marsha Fortune, Bolivar Branch Manager, and Brenda West,
Strasburg Branch Manager, Tuscarawas County Public Library, will
facilitate group discussion on solving managerial problems at the branch
library.=20
