ROSEMARY WELLS COMING TO NORTHEAST OHIO

Warren, Ohio-September 27, 2004- Probably the most well known advocate
in the United States on the topic of early literacy, and the importance
of reading to young children, is author and illustrator Rosemary Wells.
Ms. Wells will be appearing in northeast Ohio at the Hilton Garden Inn
in Twinsburg, Ohio on Saturday, October 30, 2004. The workshop will be
held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with registration beginning at 8:30
a.m. Cost for the conference is $35.00 which includes brunch.

NOLA Regional Library System, North East Ohio Special Education Regional
Resource Center (SERCC), TRU-MAH-COL Association for the Education of
Young Children, and CAMLS Regional Library System are sponsoring the
workshop. It is supported in part by the US Institute of Museum and
Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and
Technology Act, administered in Ohio by the State Library of Ohio. Other
supporters include Mideast Ohio SERRC, East Shore SERRC, and Cuyahoga

Rosemary Wells' "Read to Your Bunny" campaign has been replicated in
early literacy initiatives throughout the world. Her plea is for parents
to read to their child twenty minutes every day, as they are the "most
important 20 minutes of your day." Ms. Wells' career as an author and
illustrator spans more than 30 years and 100 books. She has won numerous
awards, and has given readers such unforgettable characters as Max and
Ruby, Noisy Nora, McDuff and Yoko. Emily's First 100 Days of School made
the New York Times Bestseller list. Her latest book, My Kindergarten,
relates the exciting and important first school year for children, and
contains segments on language, math, science, community, art, music, and
holidays.=20

Other speakers include Debbie McGlothlin, Consultant with the Ohio
Department of Education, Office of Early Childhood Education, who will
discuss using Ms. Wells' books to fulfill Ohio early content learning
standards, and Sue McCleaf Nespeca, NOLA Regional Library System, who
will discuss new children's books to share with young children.=20
