GCPL and Clark County use a product which requires patron authentication
with a barcode. That's basically our policy...you need a library card to
get an IP.
My wireless is filtered.
Policies are policies and obviously were adopted for a reason, but if a
goal of wireless access is to allow students (who may be issued laptops
at school) access to your databases I'm not sure why you would enforce
an age restrictive policy. And how would you enforce it? Make patrons
show an ID if they are using a laptop?
We did away with age restrictive policies when we began to offer patrons
MetaFind searches from within the catalog.

We are amending our internet policies to cover wireless internet access
in the library and would like to know how other libraries are handling
it. Our library computers provide filtered access, and the wireless
will be unfiltered. One other difference is the policy requirement for
parental permission for those under 18 to access the Web using the
library's computers- an impossibility with the use of patron laptops.
Does anyone else with the same situation have policies you are willing
to share?
