Ms. Hren,
At the Putnam County District Library, we have a small but dedicated book
group of about 8 patrons.
We obtain our group's titles through Interlibrary Loan instead of purchasing
sets. I do not recall ever receiving a set of books from a given library,
but as long as we put our requests out in a timely manner, we have always
gotten enough books through various libraries to meet our needs.
This approach does require some co-ordination with our Interlibrary Loan
Specialist and some "long-term" planning (for example, our 2005 titles were
selected in July of 2004), and it does not allow us to discuss the hottest
books at their height of popularity. Beyond those problems, I have never had
a shortage, my patrons are happy, and we have not had to give up a great
deal of money or shelf space for the program.
