April 18 - Better Living Through XHTML & CSS - Dreamweaver Edition -
Scott Debney

Web standards are no longer limited to early-adopting web geeks,
bloggers, and evangelists. The practical benefits of using standards
have never been more evident. Designing with web standards makes your
site faster, more interactive, 508 compliant, easy to maintain &
viewable on PDAs and cell phones.=20

In this hands-on, step-by-step session, you will learn core XHTML and
CSS while designing a valid XHTML 2-5 page website from scratch. We will
recreate this fictitious company's website using only XHTML and CSS.
http://www.ohionet.org/ws/myxhtml/ <http://www.ohionet.org/ws/myxhtml/>

NOTE: Editors such as FrontPage or Dreamweaver will NOT be used.
Ultraedit <http://www.ultraedit.com/> will be used for development.

May 3 - Seniors, Computers and the Web - Gail Junion-Metz

If the seniors in your library struggle when you try to teach them how
to use a computer/mouse, or if they're overwhelmed with Internet
Explorer (or another browser), or confused when searching the
Web...attend this full-day workshop to find out how to make teaching
seniors more effective and fun for them (and more satisfying for you).
You'll learn which search tools and techniques work best with seniors,
how to reduce senior "technophobia," and how best to design classes and
handouts especially for seniors. You'll even get a chance to design a
handout from scratch in order to practice what you've learned, as well
as visit some great websites that seniors will enjoy visiting. Have fun
and get "senior-savvy."=20

May 4 - Making Your Library Website Accessible to Everyone - Gail
Junion-Metz

Is your library's website accessible to all your patrons? If you aren't
sure, attend this workshop to learn about the types of disabilities
folks have and how to address them when creating or updating your
website. Hear about federal and international guidelines for creating
accessible websites and lots of simple ways (using basic HTML skills or
your HTML editor) to make your website accessible, including programs
such as Word, Acrobat, and PowerPoint.

May 5 - Religious Resources: Print and Online - Marti Alt, Dona Straley,
& Suzanne Smailes

Are you confused by the rapidly increasing number of reference books and
websites on religion? What do they cover and which ones are best? Do
your patrons ask questions about Muslims and their view of America, what
foods are kosher for Jews, or how the various sects of Christianity
differ?

Learn from three academic library subject specialists about print and
electronic religious resources in general, with particular attention to
Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Topics include not only resources on
the basics of these religions, but also the culture and customs of their
adherents, with an emphasis on the modern world.=20

better acquisition and licensing arrangements. It will include sections
on techniques for editing license agreements, suggestions for working
with legal counsel, and strategies for effective negotiations. Sample
license agreements will be used as examples. Workshop participants will
have an opportunity to read and critique contracts and test their
knowledge through role-playing experience.=20
