The Northwest Library District (NORWELD) is announcing the availability of
its Summer Reading Program database to interested non-member libraries on a
license basis.

The program is now in its second year of use by our member libraries and is
designed to assist YS staff in setting up, organizing and generating
statistics for their annual SRP activities.

The application is a secured webpage that staffers can go to to create
guidelines for the SRP. Later, staffers can register patrons for the
program and track rewards and incentives. At the end of the SRP, a
librarian can get statistics by school, reward, age and grade. Data is
stored and retained by year, making this a good tool to compare SRP
activity from year to year.

For larger public library systems that have their own server, the software
will be sent to you on a CD-ROM. For smaller libraries that don't have a
server, NORWELD is willing to host the application.

To view an unsecured demo of the application, go to
http://tech.norweld.lib.oh.us/srp.

To view a demo of what your volunteers/staff would use to input patrons and
rewards, go to http://tech.norweld.lib.oh.us/srp/admin. To get an idea as
to how the program works, go back a year and view the 2004 SRP statisics
from the Wood County District Public Library. This is a demo copy so feel
free to edit the information as you see fit.

Although the program is fairly intuitive, a brief instruction manual will
be provided with the program. NORWELD will also offer two free one and
one-half hour workshops over the course of the next month at our office
here in Bowling Green for those libraries purchasing a license or for any
NORWELD member still interested in using the program. Please register
through our CE calendar if you are interested in attending either workshop:

April 6 - http://www.norweld.lib.oh.us/calendar/description.asp?ID=324

April 21 - http://www.norweld.lib.oh.us/calendar/description.asp?ID=325

The license fee is on a per site basis. An annual maintenance fee for the
fiscal year beginning July 1, 2005 will also be charged to a library using
the NORWELD server as a host. Any upgrades to the program are also
available to a library paying the maintenance fee.

Additional information concerning the program and license fee may be
obtained by contacting me by e-mail (agray@wcnet.org) or by phone at
800-848-0144.
