The Patron Records Privacy Audit: Why? And How?

This videoconference will provide background on the issues surrounding
and affecting the confidentiality of patron records, most particularly
those records related to patrons' use of library materials. Suggested
guidelines for implementation of a patron records policy will be
discussed, as well as suggested procedures and guidelines for conducting
a patron records privacy audit in academic/public libraries.=20

Angela Weiler is the Circulation and Public Services Librarian for
Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, New York. She has been a member
of the State University of New York Librarians' Association for the past
eight years, and last year she developed a Recommended Patron Records
Policy and Procedure for SUNY libraries.=20

Following the videoconference, Kent Oliver, Director of Stark County
District Library and chair of the ALA Intellectual Freedom Committee,
will join us with an update on the US Patriot Act and intellectual
freedom issues. Kent's timely presentation follows ALA's Legislative Day
activities.=20
