[OPLINLIST] Can you identify this story?

[Mindy Holmes]

I have a patron who is looking for the title of a book he read in grade
school (around the mid-early 1980's).  The plot of the book as he remembers
it is as follows:

 

A girl plays taps on her trumpet at night and hears something answering her.
She discovers it is a dinosaur.  The story was set in the northwest
(Oregon?) and the girl's father was a logger.

 

Any ideas?
