Leading Through the Gaps...The Generation Gaps!
Managing for success in the Information and Conceptual Ages of the 21st
century is vastly different than managing for success in the 20th
century's Industrial Age. A leader of the Industrial Age focused on
production and managing the business to the numbers, especially bigger
and better systems. Leaders in today's Knowledge Economy must manage the
left-brain thinking of technology as well as engage the right-brain
competencies of the Conceptual Economy--in order to meet the challenges
of the sea change we call a Global Economy. This means tapping into all
of the brains in the workplace.

Each of the four generations in today's workplace brings significantly
different (and often contradictory) values, beliefs and expectations to
organizations whose survival depends upon those individuals to also deal
with downsizing, technological improvements and "doing more with less."
Coaching--rather than supervision and management skills--is the common
denominator that not only brings out the best in each person but also
cultivates growth and individual responsibility for both one's own
future as well as for the future of the organization.
