Picture Book Illustration as Art
MIFFY AT THE LIBRARY is a unique, interactive art exhibit that celebrates
the work of Dick Bruna, writer and illustrator of the popular enduring Miffy
books. On Monday, February 13, 2006, librarians and educators are invited
to tour this special exhibit at the Cleveland Public Library. Included with
the tour of the exhibit is a special presentation and panel discussion on
Picture Book Illustration as Art. Participants will hear a presentation by
Gratia Banta, Chair of the 2006 Caldecott Award Committee on Reading
Pictures: Searching for Excellence in Picture Books. After the tour and
lunch, a panel of experts in children's literature and art will then discuss
the beauty and meaning of picture book art. Deepen your interest and
understanding of picture book illustration as art. Join us!

Darwin Henderson, professor of literacy and early childhood education at the
University of Cincinnati, Chair, 2006 Coretta Scott King Award Committee
Chrystal Carr Jeter, Youth Services Manager, Cleveland Public Library,
Chair, 2005 Coretta Scott King Award Committee
This workshop is co-sponsored by the Cleveland Public Library, CAMLS and
NOLA.
The Miffy at the Library Exhibit is part of a ten-city tour that features
limited edition prints of Dick Bruna's artwork.
