Learn how to repair your own books, in-house!  This class will teach the 
binding techniques of folding, sewing, lining the spine and finishing 
skills, which includes making a cover.  Please register today and

      Speaker(s)

Gabrielle Fox is a leading expert and artisan in the binding, 
conservation and restoration of fine books. Her career has included 
training and teaching in many distinguished institutions in the United 
States and Great Britain and her work has earned many awards and 
commendations. She currently works from her studio in Cincinnati, Ohio, 
and travels frequently to teach intensive workshops and consult and care 
for both institutional and private book collections. At the moment, 
Gabrielle is exhibiting in the fourth DeGolyer Exhibition at Southern 
Methodist University, and this autumn will have bindings in both the 
Neale M. Albert Collection of Miniature Fine Bindings and The Guild of 
Book Workers Centenary Exhibition opening at the Grolier Club.


      Description

This 4-day workshop will give participants an introduction to materials 
and tools for book repairs. Participants will learn binding techniques 
of folding, sewing, lining the spine and finishing skills, which will 
include making the cover. Participants are required to bring books in 
need to repair to practice the skills they have learned.

In addition to books in need of repair, each participant should bring to 
the class:
1) a bone folder
2) a mechanical pencil
3) an eraser
4) a 12-inch metal ruler
5) a small craft knife or scalpel and blades (#10 and #11 are useful)
6) a self-healing cutting mat
7) an apron

If you already have these items, please bring them:
1) spring set dividers
2) scissors - large and small
3) plastic or metal rulers of any size
4) plastic or metal triangles or L-squares of any size
