ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 6TH, 2006:

"Usability assessment of web sites"      

Featuring Presenters Dr. Laura Cheng and Dr. Jason Holmes     

You have a website - but how do you know if it is an asset to your organization, or a liability?  Your users might like you, but hate your website.  Can your users find what they need easily and efficiently?  Do your users see what you want them to see? This presentation will provide an introduction to the concepts of web usability, the evaluation criteria commonly used, and methods of usability assessment.  We will  discuss ways to assess your current website and improve your user's overall experienc.

WHERE: Columbus Metropolitan Library's Larry D. Black Auditorium in the Main Library at 96 South Grant Avenue, Columbus, OH 43215. Parking available at $.50 per hour in the Library's attached garage.

Presenters 

Dr. Cheng is Assistant Professor in the Columbus Program of the School of Library and Information Science at Kent State University. She teaches courses in the foundations of library and information science, organization of information, and research methods. Her research interests includes information seeking, human-computer interaction, web usability, and scholarly communication. She holds a B.A. degree in Humanities from the National Taiwan University in Taiwan and received her MLS and Ph.D. in Information Science from Indiana University.    

Dr. Holmes is Assistant Professor in the School of Library and Information Science at Kent State University.  He teaches courses in the foundations of library and information science, information storage and retrieval, computer networking, and electronic publishing.  His research interests include human-computer interaction, web usability, and web credibility.  He holds a B.A. degree in English Literature and an MLIS degree from Louisiana State University.  He completed his Ph.D. in Information Science at the University of North Texas.
