Homework Centers 101

Wednesday, Nov. 29 – Twinsburg Public Library

Thursday, Nov. 30 – North Canton Public Library

9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Speaker: Dr. Cindy Mediavilla, author of

"Creating the Full Service Homework Center in Your Library"

Thinking about starting a homework center at your library?

Learn how Dr. Mediavilla used her Loleto D. Fyan Award to study the services that libraries provide through homework centers around the US. With a surge in population and a growing number of parents who have difficulty helping their students with homework - whether due to language barriers or job constraints - homework centers have become increasingly important.

Cindy will describe the steps involved in starting a homework center from conducting community surveys, recruiting staff and finding funding to liability issues. This will be a "nuts and bolts" workshop about what you need to set up and operate a successful center in your library, as well as how to help staff handle homework questions at the reference desk.
