11/16/06 – Hilton Garden Inn, Twinsburg, OH

Speaker: Joan Frye Williams, Consultant

Few library employees have extensive experience as entrepreneurs, experimenters, or risk-takers. And when library resources are limited, it's natural for us to be cautious. Nevertheless, the ability to size up - and take - a calculated risk can be the key to successful change and innovation. In this lively, interactive session, we will explore how to:

-Choose the most promising innovations in the first place

-Decide when a risk is justified and when it isn't

-Articulate risks and benefits for effective communication

-Use existing library assets as a safety net

-Avoid common innovation pitfalls, and

-Recover from missteps when (not if!) - they happen

Learn how to keep customer satisfaction UP and your blood pressure DOWN by improving your innovation and risk-taking skills.
