Posted on December 13, 2007 for a minimum of seven days and will remain open until filled.

Position Purpose:
Provides cataloged and classified shelf-ready library materials and maintains the local bibliographic database.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Catalogs and classifies library materials in accordance with current cataloging standards.

2. Assists in local database management, including development and maintenance of local authority files and holdings deletions in both library catalog and OCLC.

3. Assists the Associate Director for Library Technologies and the Acquisitions Manager in workflow analysis and implementing change to provide the most efficient flow of library materials through Technical Services.

4. Develops, documents, and implements local procedures for data entry into the ILS.

5. Provides reports and statistical analysis of library materials and Technical Services activities in the ILS.

6. Works with the catalogers at our SLIC member libraries to ensure consistency and accuracy within our local bibliographic database.

Education and Experience:
MLS or MLIS from an ALA Accredited school is required.
Two years Technical Services and/or OCLC experience is preferred.
Familiarity with III's Millennium software and/or Public Service experience is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Must possess knowledge of current cataloging standards, including but not limited to AACR2, MARC, LCSH, DDC, LCRI, and authority control issues.

2. Must possess a proven ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, excellent interpersonal and computer skills, and the ability to work independently.

Physical and Mental Requirements
Extensive standing, stooping, bending, and lifting/moving books and carts up to 40 pounds. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Good vision and hearing. Mental alertness, focus, and attention to details. Must maintain professional manner when dealing with co-workers, patrons, including teens, young children and others.

Hours: Full Time (40 hours). Typical schedule is Monday through Friday. May require a six-day work week and may include assignment at any Agency.
