Usability Testing Workshop
Dr. Laura Cheng and Dr. Jason Holmes spoke on the topic of "usability testing of the Web" at the December CO-ASIS&T Program. After the presentation, several participants expressed further interest in usability testing. Dr. Laura Cheng will offer a 2-day workshop on the topic on March 16 and 17 at the SLIS Columbus Program. This workshop is part of the Continuing Education Programs of the Kent State University and anyone interested in this topic can enroll in the program.
Topics covered in the Usability Testing workshop include: planning of usability testing, task and needs analysis, testing procedure (lab and non-lab setting), data analysis, and ethical concerns related to usability testing. The workshop is specifically designed for people in the library community. Hands-on practice will be part of the curriculum. Please see the following message for the workshop announcement from SLIS.

Subject: NEW Kent State workshop---Usability Testing for the Web!
This Spring semester, Kent State University School of Library and
Information Science will be offering a new, cutting-edge
workshop: "Usability Testing for the Web." One section will be offered
in Columbus.
The goal of this workshop is to introduce fundamental concepts,
principles, and techniques for user testing and evaluation on the Web.
Methods covered include heuristics, user/needs analysis, and task
analysis. Techniques for data collection and analysis, along with
report creation and presentation will also be covered. Students will
gain hands-on experience with usability testing methods and procedure.
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to understand the
methods and techniques for conducting usability testing; and will have
gained hands-on experience with usability testing
