Continuing Education Opportunities

 

Summer is here! Get out of the blistering sun and attend some cool
professional development workshops!

 

Koha Zoom- Opensource Library Automation All Grown Up.

Josh Ferraro, Release Manager for the Koha project and President, Technology
of LibLime, will lead a workshop for libraries that fear they can't take
advantage of open-source automation. One session is for administrators who
want to explore the feasibility of opensource in their libraries, a
different session for the tech experts who would implement and troubleshoot
the technology. 

Free of charge for SERLS enhanced member library staff, $30 for all other
library staff.

Scott Warrick presents "The Employment Law Game"

Scott Warrick, President of the Human Resource Consulting, Employment Law
and Training Firm, based in Ohio, will discuss employment law issues such as
sexual harassment, employee drug abuse and termination, as well as briefing
participants on any recent changes to the law. $30 for SERLS Enhanced member
library staff, $80 for all other library staff. 

 

July 19th 9:00 AM- 12:00 PM, State Library of Ohio, Columbus. 

 

 

Children's Services Roundtable

Join Cheryl Blankenship, Children's Librarian, Briggs Lawrence County Public
Library, as she gives a presentation on programming for home-schooled
children. The second half of the session will be dedicated to a roundtable
discussion in which participants will talk about their summer reading
programs as well as share plans for future programming. Come prepared with
handouts including program outlines, songs, rhymes and craft ideas. By the
end of this fun filled day, everyone will go home with plenty of new ideas
program ideas! Free of charge!

Don't Miss the Upcoming Collection Development Symposium Coming on October
24th!  

Organized by SERLS in partnership with the Regional Library Systems of Ohio
and thanks to support from the State Library of Ohio, this Collection
Development Symposium will cover every aspect of collection development,
from basic skills such as weeding and acquisitions for new staff to special
collections, children's and YA collections, as well as new and recent trends
and technologies that are changing the way information is stored and
accessed. This event will be held at the Fawcett Center in Columbus. More
information on speakers and fees to be announced soon!
