*Julia Cooper, MLS, MBA*
Ms. Cooper has over fifteen years of retail management, library public
relations, marketing research and marketing production experience. Ms.
Cooper consults for clients such as OCLC, OHIONET, and Worthington
Libraries, and teaches for the Kent State University SLIS program. Ms.
Cooper has a B.S. degree in Textiles, Merchandising and Design from the
University of Tennessee. She received a full-scholarship to attend
Indiana University and received her M.L.S. in 1994. She moved to
Columbus in 1999 to earn her M.B.A. from The Ohio State University
Fisher College of Business, where she continues to mentor undergraduate
students. She is a member of ALA and enjoys reading leadership books,
historical romance, biographies, and funny "chick lit".
Description
You've heard all the 'buzz' words---now find out what they mean and how
to apply marketing concepts in your library! We will go through the
"Cycle of Marketing" and do exercises for each component in order to
identify customer needs and to communicate more effectively. Finally, we
will put it all together in a basic Marketing Plan. This is a great way
to get acquainted with marketing and to gain new tools to use right away
at your library!

This workshop was developed to improve overall customer service and to
increase circulation of materials and library attendance. By learning
and implementing marketing principles and techniques, everyone wins --
libraries, librarians, patrons, and the community! Practice the
necessary application of marketing planning and design with intent -- in
an open and collaborative learning environment.

Anyone in the library, museum or creative field interested in Marketing,
whether professional librarian, administrator, staff, or student. This
workshop is designed for discussion and group work and recommended for
teams from your library---so the more, the merrier! Also, this workshop
would be helpful for one-person librarians who have to "do it all".
