To further the Mission of the State Library of Ohio, this position will
provide bibliographic control and access to tangible media and digital
resources available from the collections of the State Library of Ohio.
This includes monographs, with a focus on monographs in print
(particularly rare books, genealogy resources and Ohio government
documents) and those that are reproduced in digital formats from our
collections.  A secondary focus may include cataloging of born digital
web publications.

This position is responsible for performing original and complex OCLC
member cataloging while exploring, learning, and employing the most
appropriate metadata formats to provide better access to library
resources most needed by State Library customers.

Job Duties: Provides cataloging services using Innovative Interfaces,
Inc. (III), Content DM & OCLC Connexion including creating original and
complex copy cataloging records for print, other tangible media and
their digital reproductions in all subjects and bibliographic formats
using established policies and procedures.  Creates metadata using
existing and emerging metadata formats (i.e. MARC and Dublin Core).
Explores use of other metadata standards (e.g. METS, MODS, EDA, etc.) to
determine appropriateness of their application at the State Library of
Ohio. Collaborates with special collections personnel, subject
specialists and appropriate other interested parties to help determine
the best way to provide access.  Sets priorities and manages workload in
consultation with the department head to meet expressed needs.  Creates
(scans) and directs the creation of digital reproduction images from
print and other tangible media.  Assigns Library of Congress
classification numbers as well as Library of Congress subject headings.
Prepares and enters bibliographic information in online databases for
materials in all formats.

Participates in developing departmental goals, priorities, procedures,
and in planning activities and training other cataloging staff to assist
in related assignments.  Contributes thoughts and ideas regarding
cataloging digital tangible media to improve access by State Library
customers.  Keeps current with rules, standards and major developments
in tangible media and digital resources cataloging, and informs others
as appropriate.  Creates and maintains statistical data regarding
cataloging responsibilities and activities.  Prepares reports and
analyses as needed.  Assists in the cataloging of other library
materials as needed.  Attends meetings, conferences and workshops as
required. 

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in library science from
accredited college or university; 1 course or 3 months experience in
library organization &/or administration; 12 months experience as
catalog or serial librarian.
