      Description

ROYAL (Reviewers of Young Adult Literature) is a group of professional 
librarians and educators from the Greater Cincinnati Area who meet 
regularly to share information about books we have read. It is an 
Interest Group of SWON Libraries and is open to all interested parties. 
The members are school and public librarians who serve young adults and 
children.

ROYAL meets on the 2nd Tuesday of odd-numbered months (January, March, 
etc.).

*How it works:*
Publishers send copies of their new titles to the ROYAL group. These 
books are aimed at the target audience of YA readers, grades 7-12 (some 
publishers also send titles for primary, elementary, professional and 
adult levels). At each meeting, reviews from the last set of books are 
reviewed orally. The participating reviewers get to choose books to read 
and review for the next meeting. The number of books taken is based on 
the number of reviewers at the meeting and the number of books received. 
Two copies of the reviews are sent to the publisher, and one copy is 
kept in the archives. The member gets to keep the books that she or he 
reviews. Most of the reviewers add the books to their library's 
collection. Most members add close to $1,000 worth of free books to 
their home libraries.
