Speaker(s)
Currently Jo Ann Vicarel is the Branch Manager of the Noble Neighborhood
Library in Cleveland Heights. Her Branch specializes in Mystery Fiction.
She has long been recognized as an expert on the Mystery novel and has
spoken at many OLC Chapter Conferences and given workshops to library
systems and regional consortiums throughout the state. She has reviewed
Mysteries for Library Journal for twenty five years. She currently
writes their monthly Mystery Column. She is the author of A READER'S
GUIDE TO THE POLICE PROCEDURAL. When she saw a need for a reader's
advisory group at the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public
Library she arranged for training and set up a group which still meets
every month. They are working on the philosophy of being a Reader's
Advisor.
Description
While big publishers are cutting back on the number of books published
every year, the Mystery novel is a wide open genre made so by a number
of small presses. Come hear about new authors writing Mysteries, new and
current themes in this genre and ways you can use to help your readers
find good books. We will discuss ways to keep lists of Read-a-likes,
trends in publishing in the genre, what to buy for your library, the
importance of weeding and displays and where to find good information on
the Internet.
