*Keynote Presenter:*

William Young, MBA, works with libraries, service organizations and
associations, providing high-content programs and workshops that empower
people to improve their performance, productivity, and profits. Bill's

Public Library, located in Portsmouth, Ohio. Jenny highly believes that
to be happy in what you do you must somehow have a "little" bit of fun.
And with this type of philosophy, the /Fun in the Workplace/ workshop
was created. Jenny succeeded in creating a workshop that has been
described as being enjoyable, yet informative and a great way to
emphasize the importance of creating fun among staff and in the workplace.

      Description

_*Keynote Session: Libraries that IMPACT!*_

Most libraries have similar concerns that prevent them from becoming the
optimal organization they want to and can be. These challenges usually
include:

· Poor communication practices, especially between the main branch and
other branches.
· The group not working as a team; often, several cliques exist and make
management difficult.
· Criticism between groups and individuals.
· Relationship skills are lacking.
· Challenges dealing with angry customers.
· Library morale is low.
· Implementing any change incites everything from apathy to insurrection.

In this program we will address all of these topics in an interactive,
coherent, and enjoyable manner, using games, exercises, music and more.
This is not only a powerful program, but one that is equally enjoyable.
If these challenges ring familiar to you, this might be just the ticket
for your library.

We will discuss how to become a library that has impact not only on
customers, but on staff, board members, and the community at large.
Reaching effectiveness as a library requires effectiveness on the
individual, team, and group level. We will look into enhancing
individual and group performance by addressing the following:

*I*magine New Paradigms
*M*anage Relationships
*P*roficient Communications
*A*ccept Responsibility
*C*riticize Effectively and Productively
*T*eamwork through Leadership

_/*Breakout Sessions*/_

*/Fun in the Workplace!/ with Jenny Lavender*
/Fun in the Workplace!/ is an enjoyable, yet informative workshop
emphasizing the importance of creating fun among staff and in the
workplace. /Fun in the Workplace!/ will provide the understanding, the
motivation, and real-life, specific, "how to" ideas that anyone can
apply in his or her job that will make a difference.

*/Reader's Advisory/ with Emily Wichman*
This readers' advisory crash course will provide you with tips on how to
work with patrons who come to you with reading questions. You will also
be introduced to a variety of web sites, which will assist you in
answering the most common readers' advisory questions. A brief
introduction to Novelist, a readers' advisory database, will be
included. Come learn about some great tools that will not only help you
find your own next great read, but will be your backup the next time
you're asked, "Can you recommend a good book?"

*/Managing Your Boss: The "Less-Stress" Roadmap to the Win-Win
Situation/ with Bill Young*
Successfully managing any boss is a challenge, but often feasible. In
this program we will address the following concepts:

· Non-confrontational communications
· Assessing negative emotions
· Dealing with criticism
· Many other aspects of successfully working with all kinds of "bosses."

Whether your boss is a department head, director, or board, this is a
"don't miss" program that will make your life at work less stressful and
more productive
