The Tuscarawas County Public Library will be sponsoring a program on
Cy Young on Thursday, April 19th at 7 PM in the downstairs fellowship
hall of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia,
located at 201 West High Avenue. Dr. Reed Browning, professor of
history at Kenyon College and author of Cy Young: A Baseball Life,
will discuss the life and legacy of Tuscarawas County’s very own Hall
of Fame pitcher.

One of the most consistent and durable pitchers the game has ever
known, Denton True "Cy" Young won 511 games - almost 100 more than
any other pitcher in history. In 1901 Young had his best season and
became the American League's first superstar, leading the league in
wins, strikeouts and ERA. In 1903, he won two games in the first
modern World Series to help Boston to the championship.

Copies of "Cy Young: A Baseball Life" will be available for purchase
following the program. A display of rare photographs featuring the
legendary pitcher will be provided by the Tuscarawas County
Historical Society. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of
the Library. Admission is free and all are welcome. For more
information or to register for the program, please call the library
at 330-364-4474.
