Building a Content Management Strategy
How do you align a content strategy with the needs of the business? What
will make a specific project worthwhile to the organization, justify
costs, and provide a sufficient payback? How do you keep the focus of
business leaders and get them to commit for the longer term in order to
drive change and fully realize benefits?
This session will discuss the upfront analysis that needs to take place
when organizations develop a CM strategy. CM strategy can cover many
aspects of the problem --- from alignment with business processes and
organizational change to technology selection, information architecture,
workflow, and process design. But without proper alignment with business
goals, a content strategy will lose the attention and funding of the
organization. "Making information easier to use" is not a specific goal
and will not increase revenue or reduce costs unless it supports a
specific capability. Building an effective strategy starts with
understanding big-picture strategic goals and then bringing those down
to the level of business imperatives, business processes, and individual
capabilities. This approach will assure you that you are building the
correct features and functions into your deployment and maintaining the
support of the business.
*Attendees will learn the following:*
* Approaches for understanding business drivers
* Ways to link drivers to specific capabilities
* How to translate capabilities into business and functional requirements
* Ways to maintain the attention and focus of the organization on CM
