Position:				Adult Services Librarian
(full-time @ 37.5 hours/week)
Grade:				V
Starting rate range:		$16.00 - $18.00 per hour

The Avon Lake Public Library is an independent library serving the city
and school district of Avon Lake, Ohio.  Located in Lorain County, west
of Cleveland along the shores of Lake Erie, Avon Lake is an established
but growing community of 19,000.  Our patrons love and support their

We seek a creative and highly competent librarian to provide reference
and reader's advisory services to the public.  Responsibilities include
collection development and maintenance; devising and facilitating
programming for the public; developing and maintaining good
relationships with other community organizations; and formal and
informal training for the public and staff on the use of library
resources.  

The Adult Services department is managed by the Assistant Director/Adult
Services Manager, who also manages the Young Adult department.  These
departments are closely intertwined and located in close proximity to
one another.

The ideal candidate will work independently, yet do their share as part
of the department(s), staffing service desks, and assisting patrons and
colleagues with patience, understanding and a sterling sense of humor.
Regular evening and weekend scheduling, including Sundays, is required.

Qualifications: 
*	MLIS or MLS from an ALA-accredited program.
*	Broad knowledge of print and online reference resources; broad
general knowledge base.
*	Demonstrated high comfort level with information technology, in
libraries and in life; willingness to keep up with changes, to learn
more and to share knowledge with others.  
*	Good oral and written communication skills; superior listening
and customer service skills.
*	Teamwork and leadership skills; superior organizational,
collaboration and networking skills.
*	Several years of experience as an adult services or reference
librarian preferred.

Salary is DOQ/E.  Benefits package includes:  Paid Time Off (20 days);
12 annual sick days; opportunity for carry-over of sick leave from
another public institution; employee assistance program; health
insurance; and enrollment in OPERS (Ohio Public Employees Retirement
System).
