Join us for a day of learning and sharing! Whether you are an 
information specialist, an academic or public librarian, or a library 
school student, this workshop will inspire and refresh your professional 
interests in librarianship and technology. Our keynote speaker is George 
Needham, Vice President of Member Services for OCLC. Our workshop 
sessions include such varied topics as federated searching, Second Life, 
wikis, grant writing, and effective communication. Don't miss this 
exciting opportunity to take a day out of your busy schedule and get 
back a day and a half in productivity!

George Needham
Keynote Speaker
George Needham is VP, Member Services for OCLC. Before joining OCLC in 
1999, George was State Librarian of Michigan. From 1993 to 1996, he was 
Executive Director of the Public Library Association, a division of the 
American Library Association. From 1990 to 1993, he was Director of 
Member Services of the Ohio Library Association. From 1977 to 1989, he 
served held various posts in libraries in Ohio and Charleston, SC. 
George is a frequent speaker at conferences and symposia, with topics 
ranging from library environmental scanning to gaming.


Paul Gerwe
Special Session Speaker
Federated search software allows a user to search multiple electronic 
resources at the same time. The goal is to let users search all relevant 
sources quickly and easily to get their answer. Even with federated 
search software, the goal is easier said than done. Paul Gerwe has 
investigated, designed and implemented a federated search solution for 
the Procter & Gamble library. He'll share high level details on what's 
possible and practical for federated search.
Paul Gerwe began his career as a webmaster and technical writer. He 
received his MSIS in 1999 from the School of Information and Library 
Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He joined 
Procter & Gamble in 2000 to provide IT support for legacy systems. In 
2002 he moved to the P&G Library. There he split his time between 
business research and IT projects including federated search. Today his 
time is devoted to supporting library systems and technologies with a 
special emphasis on search and findability.


Margaret De Bruine
Breakout Session Speaker
Would you like to increase your productivity, communicate seamlessly, 
bring groups together virtually, share content? There are free tools 
available! Margaret De Bruine has reviewed the best of these tools and 
will tailor her break out session to meet the attendees' needs and 
interests.
Margaret De Bruine received her MLS from Syracuse University in 1977. 
She has spent over 25 years in corporate and special libraries as a 
reference librarian, solo library practitioner and information 
specialist. During her career, Margaret has developed library services 
for business and health care organizations. Her broad experiences have 
exposed her to all types of special libraries with an emphasis on 
reference and end-user service delivery.

Chad Boeninger
Breakout Session Speaker
Wikis are incredibly useful tools that can be used for a variety of 
purposes: facilitating communication, promoting library resources, and 
fostering group collaboration. This session offers best practices for 
creating a wiki, marketing the wiki, getting others to use and 
contribute to the wiki, marketing the wiki, and keeping your wiki growing.
Chad F. Boeninger is the Reference & Instruction Technology Coordinator 
at Ohio and the Business and Economics Bibliographer at Ohio 
University's Alden Library. He created the The Biz Wiki and blogs at 
Library Voice.

Laura Sullivan
Breakout Session Speaker
Have you ever want to try your hand at writing a grant proposal but 
didn't know where to start? Not sure how to qualify for a grant? Laura 
Sullivan will highlight the basics of grant writing as well as show how 
technology has changed the application process.
Laura Sullivan received her MLS from Indiana University in 1981. She has 
spent over 25 years in academic libraries as a reference librarian, 
administrator, and most recently Grants Coordinator. Most of Laura's 
career has been at Northern Kentucky University as an Associate 
Professor of Library Services, where she currently identifies external 
funding sources, develops fundable projects, and writes grant proposals. 
Laura also assists library faculty with grant funding for new projects 
and services in their specialized areas. In addition, her background in 
Communication allows Laura the opportunity to teach an Interpersonal 
Communication class as an adjunct at NKU.

Beth Kraemer
Breakout Session Speaker
Librarians and other educators exploring the virtual world Second Life 
are finding creative ways to engage students and create educational 
experiences that are not possible in real life. This session will 
include a general introduction to Second Life, a sampling of educational 
and library projects currently underway, and an opportunity to discuss 
benefits as well as potential obstacles when pioneering on the 3-D web.
Beth Kraemer is a librarian in the Information Technology division of 
the University of Kentucky Libraries. Her current interests include 
social networking and Second Life. Beth has been involved in Second Life 
since January 2007. In that time she has been active in library projects 
in both the teen and adult worlds and helped establish the University of 
Kentucky presence in Second Life.
