      Description

*PLEASE NOTE: THIS PROGRAM IS DELIVERED THROUGH WEB CONFERENCING TO THE
SWON LIBRARIES OFFICE.*

The first part of the seminar is entitled, “Don’t Let Other People
Decide How You will Behave.” It will introduce the Assertive
Communication Theoretical Model which is recognized as the most
effective method of communication for the workplace. Everyone faces
stressful and difficult situations every day no matter what the setting.
Assertive communication theory recognizes that it is generally not the
technical aspects of work that cause stress and frustration. It is in
the interpersonal exchanges. With the use of assertive language and
behavior, people find situations not only more manageable but more
satisfying. The goal is for one to feel good about themselves, the
people with whom they interact and the organization they represent.

*Critical Learning Questions*

How does one make a choice in how to respond?
How does one effectively deal with criticism while still learning from it?
What does one do when confronted by aggression?
How does one respond to racist remarks or personal put-downs
