      Description

This is a series of *FOUR EVENTS--*

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008
Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008
Wednesday, May 28th, 2008
Friday, July 11th, 2008

Participants must attend all four sessions and be part of a team of
three or four from the same library to attend.

Upper level managers of all libraries are continually looking for ways
to cut costs, cut time, and remain within their budgets. Library budgets
for all types of libraries have been reduced in recent years, and
library managers struggle to improve service while cutting costs.

The quality movement has been strong in the for-profit environment and
has improved the work environment, as well as the products and services,
for thousands of companies. Recently the quality movement has spread to
the health care sector as well as non-profit organizations. As complex
non-profit organizations, libraries could truly benefit from learning
the tools and processes that help employees move toward quality

This program series identifies new ways to view processes within the
library and teaches teams of library staff how to evaluate and improve
their own libraries. This program directly addresses the needs of our
libraries by teaching library staff to look at their processes in new
ways and to identify ways to streamline these processes and become more
efficient, thereby reducing costs and addressing the needs of reduced
budgets.

This program series highlights the tools and techniques that will allow
libraries to identify quality measures, train staff in quality tools and
procedures, and improve services to library patrons.

This program series addresses the needs of libraries to streamline their
processes and become more efficient. This efficiency will allow library
staff to spend more time serving patrons and will address the need to
wear "many hats" as a result of short staffing and dwindling budgets.

What can your team gain from PROCESS IMPROVEMENT FOR LIBRARIES?

--REDUCTION of ERRORS and Customer Complaints!
--Developing More SATISFIED CUSTOMERS
--Learning NEW TOOLS and STRATEGIES to work with YOUR processes
--Gaining a heightened awareness of YOUR library as a SYSTEM
--Learning to work as a COMPLETE TEAM
And MUCH MUCH MORE!

This program series is made possible by an LSTA Continuing Education
Grant through the State Library of Ohio.

How To Develop YOUR Team:

* This program series is designed to address the needs of entire
libraries or library systems, and as such is intended as a class for
teams of upper-level managers. We are targeting 35 teams of 3 to 4
library staff from individual libraries across Ohio. These teams will
then return to their home libraries to train the rest of their staff and
implement these changes.

* Between sessions, teams will work together to apply the concepts on a
process from their own libraries. The final session will include a
showcase of each team's process improvements.

* Teams should be made up of upper-level managers, including the library
director, or with full support of the library director to complete their
work.

* In larger library systems, teams may be made up of managers from a
single department who intend to improve a process for that department.
Smaller libraries may elect to send managers from across the library and
select a process to improve.

* Is your library too small to arrange a team? We will work with you to
partner your staff with staff from other libraries to come up with a
full team. Contact your Regional Library System for more information.

CAN'T MAKE THESE FOUR DATES? Check out the identical program that will
take place at Mohican State Park. Please visit the Mohican State Park
