[OPLINLIST] Kent State School of Library & Information Science---3 new faculty members!

The School of Library and Information Science at Kent State University 

announces the appointment of three new faculty members:

 

Daniel R. Roland, Ph.D., has been appointed assistant professor in the
School of Library and Information Science at Kent State University and
will begin his appointment fall semester at the Kent campus.

 

Roland earned his Ph.D. in Library and Information Management and an
M.L.I.S. from Emporia State University in Kansas. He also holds a Master
of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. 

 

His dissertation focused on interpreting scripture in contemporary times
and studying clergy members' sense-making behavior in preparing the
Sunday sermon. He plans to continue research in this area in
collaboration with Dr. Don Wicks, associate professor in the school and
a member of Roland's dissertation committee.

 

As Director of Academic Programs for the School of Library and
Information Management at Emporia State University, Roland also taught
part-time for the school. His teaching interests at Kent State include
information seeking behavior, information management, and database
designs and solutions. Roland has published and presented on a wide
range of topics including distance education. 

 

He will be relocating to Kent, Ohio from Emporia, Kansas.

 

 

Frank Lambert, Ph.D., has been appointed assistant professor in the
School of Library and Information Science at Kent State University and
will begin his appointment fall semester on the Kent campus.

 

Lambert served as assistant professor on the faulty of Information and
Media Studies at the University of Western Ontario where he earned his
Ph.D. in Library and Information Science in 2008 and his M.L.I.S. in
2002. His dissertation focused on researching various issues affecting
online community information organizations and particularly the types of
information sought through these organizations. Future research goals
include additional study of how social and governmental groups
contribute to or hinder citizens' ability to obtain vital information
through online environments.

 

A recipient of numerous scholarships, Lambert was also nominated for the
prestigious Dean's Part-time Teaching Excellence Award in 2005 at the
University of Western Ontario and has guest lectured on diverse topics
in the library and information science disciplines. Cataloguing,
information organization, and community information and informatics are
among his teaching interests.

 

A native of London, Ontario, Canada, Lambert and his family have
relocated to Stow, Ohio.

 

 

Miriam Matteson has been appointed assistant professor in the School of
Library and Information Science at Kent State University and will begin
her appointment fall semester at the school's Columbus facility located
at the State Library of Ohio.

 

Matteson earned an M.L.I.S. from Indiana University and will complete
her Ph.D in Library Science this year from the University of Maryland.
Her dissertation focuses on small group communication and interaction
and her professional experience includes reference and instruction
librarianship and circulation and cataloguing for special libraries.

 

As one of three full-time professors at the Columbus campus of Kent
State's School of Library and Information Science, Matteson will be
teaching a diverse range of classes within the program's
specializations, including library management and information sources
and reference services. An experienced public speaker, Matteson has
presented at many conferences and professional organizations including
ASIST, ALA, and ALISE.

            

A native of Dayton, Ohio, Matteson will be relocating from University
Park, Maryland to Columbus, Ohio.
