Greetings, friends!

Take a look at these upcoming workshops in November!

Authority Records Workshop

This course will introduce technical services staff to the purpose and
structure of authority records. Participants will be exposed to the MARC21
Format for Authority Data, learn how authority records are created for
access points, and the interrelationship between authorized forms of
headings.

There's More to Know with 2.0!

Web 2.0 tools and techniques have invaded every aspect of our online
experience. Join instructor Brian Gray of Case Western Reserve University as
he guides the class to explore Web 2.0 and Library 2.0 through hands-on
exercises and current real-world examples. Focus will be on blogging and
wikis, but many other tools and techniques will be explored to pique your
interest. Please be willing to discuss your library's experiences (or your
own personal experiences) with 2.0 technologies, as that will enhance
classroom discussion and drive what content is covered.

Using ILL/Direct Request to Enhance Reference

Patron-initiated ILL (OCLC Direct Request) enables users to place their own
Interlibrary Loan request when they search WorldCat through FirstSearch.
This is an optional service that can be set up for your users to help with
the demand for Interlibrary Loan. A FirstSearch subscription is required.
Learn how to set up the service, key decision points that need to be
considered, and workflow options for integrating Interlibrary Loan into the
Reference transaction.

Fundamentals of Cataloging: AV Materials

The Fundamentals of Cataloging series covers the basics of cataloging in
five sessions. Attend all the sessions or only the ones of interest. This
session will examine the cataloging of audio-visual materials. Participants
will be exposed to format-specific cataloging practices for items such as
sound recordings and DVD's. Technical services staff will learn the
fundamentals necessary for obtaining and editing quality AV records for
their library.
