[OPLINLIST] security devices

I'm doing an informal survey on securing library materials and would
appreciate responses from all libraries. I will post a summary to the
listserv if there is interest. Thanks in advance!

Do you use security devices as a theft deterrent in your library?

            If so:

What do you use (i.e. gates, tattle strips etc.)?

Do the security devices work as expected? (or do
your gates go off all the time, do your desensitizers not work....)

Do you have items stolen anyway? Anecdotal
examples?

On what items do you use them?

Do you use self-check with your security? Can
patrons handle the check out and the desensitizing?

Do you feel the cost of purchasing security
devices is justified?

                        Anything else?

If your library doesn't currently use security devices:

                        Why not?

Were they used previously? If so, why aren't they used now?

Is cost a factor for not using them? Would you use if you had the money?

Do you have any other deterrents, such as
security guards or cameras?

                        Anything else?
