Bailout! Using EDGAR and FRASER for Economic Data

No, it's not a sitcom! Part of the Federal Reserve, these two databases
(EDGAR and FRASER) deal exclusively in economic history, facts, and figures!
In this crazy, upside-down economy, your patrons are learning and needing
this very information! Help them, and help yourself! In this class we will
jump right in and explain in detail the ins-and-outs of the financial data
found here, as well as best practices on using what you find. Wrapping up
with a class project, you will be the financial wizard for your staff when
you get back to work! A great workshop for reference staff!

Marketing the Academic Library

More than ever before, academic libraries have a responsibility to
communicate the value of their available resources and expertise, both on
campus and with distance learning communities. Today's virtual library
environments give access to a wealth of information at the patron's
fingertips, but in many cases costly and very valuable resources go unused
due to a lack of awareness. Through discussion, examples, and exercises,
this half-day class will offer attendees an opportunity to discuss and share
methods for marketing academic libraries.

MarcEdit, A Cataloger's Best Friend: Learning To Streamline Metadata Tasks
With MarcEdit

This workshop-co-sponsored by the OLC's Technical Services Division-is an
introduction to MarcEdit. MarcEdit is designed specifically for large-batch
record processing, including batch editing MARC records, characterset
conversions and record extractions. MarcEdit provides a number of useful
functions that can be used to simplify database maintenance activities, as
well as provide libraries with an invaluable tool for customizing and
correcting vendor records before introducing them to one's database. The
presentation will not only cover MARC record editing, but also discuss
topics related to the processing of XML metadata, as well as MarcEdit's
build-in OAI metadata harvester, which provides libraries a simplified
method for generating MARC records from OAI repositories (like DSpace,
Fedora or CONTENTdm).
