Description
*Three Part Series - Each session will be an hour long from 9:00 a.m. -
10:00 a.m.*
May 4, 2009 - Session I: Delegating 101
May 11, 2009 - Session II: Delegation – Taking It To the Next Level
May 18, 2009 - Session III: Organizational skills – up close and personal!
You know you should. You wish you could. But delegation has never been
your strong suit – and neither has the fine art of being organized. But
both of these topics are areas you can improve in – it just takes
knowing yourself, knowing your employees, and knowing how to put that
knowledge to work for you!
In What to Do, What to Do?, you’ll learn specific tips to help you
delegate more effectively – not just more – and you’ll also discover why
doing so is important to your success as a supervisor. We’ll uncover why
we aren’t better at it in the first place, along with some important
questions to consider when you finally make that leap to delegating on a
consistent basis. Then to help us find what it is we would like to
delegate ?, we’ll discuss some fundamental organizational skills that
will help you make sure you aren’t just delegating whatever is on the
top of the stack!
In Session I, Delegating 101, we’ll start with a look at why delegation
is more important than ever for you as a supervisor. We’ll get a glimpse
of what is consuming your time each day – and how to decide which of
those tasks are “delegation-ready.” We’ll also look at tasks you’ve
already delegated to determine if they’ve been delegated for the right
reason – or just to reduce the slushpile (!). In the process, we’ll take
a sneak peak at some of the reasons we haven’t been delegating – and why
we don’t really want to. Our mission (should we choose to accept it!),
will be to step back and look at what we’ve been doing – what’s been
working well in the realm of delegating and where might we be able to
improve?
In Session II, Delegation – Taking It To the Next Level, we’ll look at 9
specific aspects of a task we need to look at when we consider
delegating to our staff, details that will not only help us decide
whether the job should be delegated, but also to whom? We’ll touch on
how our personalities affect whether or not we are willing to let go of
some of our work, as well as how our employees’ personalities should
influence to whom we assign what task, project, or responsibility.
You’ll come away from this session with a checklist of key points to
consider when matching the right employee to the work you want done, as
well as a bird’s eye view of the details that will ensure your success
when delegating.
Now that we have delegated some tasks and duties, we’re free to get
ourselves organized. In Session III of this series, we’ll take a look at
your organizational skills – up close and personal! We’ll find out why
you organize – or don’t organize – the way you do. Once we’ve figured
that out, we’ll develop a list of ways to become more organized and –
even more important – stay that way. You may even feel a sense of relief
when you realize we don’t have to organize the way they do to be
successful at it! Hurray!
