Please excuse multiple postings...

The following is being shared at the request of the COSTEP project and
is from the website, http://www.nedcc.org/disaster/costep.php

With support from an IMLS National Leadership grant, the Northeast
Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) has developed the Coordinated
Statewide Emergency Preparedness (COSTEP): An Emergency Response
Framework.

COSTEP is a planning tool designed to bring together cultural resource
institutions with emergency management agencies and first responders. It
will provide a blueprint for preparing for area-wide disasters and
building alliances with federal, state, and local emergency management
agencies.

COSTEP guides states through the process of planning for a disaster and
fosters collaboration among a wide range of agencies.

COSTEP builds upon existing emergency preparedness projects such as the
Heritage Emergency National Task Force's Alliance for Response and the
Council of State Archivists' Emergency Preparedness Initiative (EPI) and
Intergovernmental Preparedness for Essential Records (IPER). COSTEP is
designed to complement these projects and provide a mechanism for
incorporating them into a larger statewide planning effort.

The COSTEP framework was developed in cooperation with:

*	The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC)
*	The Massachusetts Archives
*	The Chief Officers of State Library Agencies (COSLA)
*	The Society of American Archivists (SAA)
*	Heritage Preservation
*	The Southeast Library Network (SOLINET)

Who Can Use COSTEP?
Because cooperation is an essential feature of COSTEP, the involvement
of the following groups is needed to develop an inclusive plan to
preserve our cultural heritage in times of disaster:

*	State agencies responsible for cultural collections
*	Library / archives / museum associations
*	Professional organizations
*	Private libraries, archives, and museums
*	Historic sites
*	Local / county / state / regional emergency managers and first
responders

For more information about COSTEP, take a look at the COSTEP brochure
<http://www.nedcc.org/disaster/downloads/COSTEP%20brochure.pdf> . Also
available is the COSTEP Starter Kit
<http://www.nedcc.org/disaster/downloads/COSTEP%20handbook.pdf> , a
handbook for emergency managers and stewards of cultural heritage.

There is also a brief online survey
<https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/5V9C3VM>  about COSTEP.  Feedback will
help the project evaluate its usefulness and garner support for
widespread use of the COSTEP framework. Contact Lori Foley, COSTEP
Project Director, at lfoley at nedcc.org <mailto:%20lfoley at nedcc.org> to
receive hard copies of the COSTEP brochure and Starter Kit.
