Copying a Compact Disc you do not own is clearly a copyright violation.

Libraries may lend CDs and other materials based on Doctrine of First Sale.
This section also looks at Fair Use and Reproduction of Works.

Check with your legal council to be sure but if you are talking copying
library CDs I wouldn't touch them with a 20 foot sync cord.

Hi,
I think I might be opening a can of worms by asking this?. but what is the
library policy on patrons using music CDs and MP3 players. Since Press
Play @ your Library is coming up with the Teen Tech Week, March 8-14th,
what are library policies regarding, ripping or transferring music to an
MP3 player.
Please don?t respond with personal interpretations. If you have actual
policies please share them. If you reference an actual law or copyright,
I challenge it to the interpretation for checking out a music CD from a
library. (You have a legal copy)
Please read this blog I found before you comment,

Also, consider this thought? Why do computers rip music instead of
copy???
Thanks,
Vanessa
