Subject: [OPLINLIST] Save Libraries Flyers

Warm summer greetings, all:

I took a tumble down 13 steps this morning and am crawling out from
under covers to periodically check my e-mail. So, when I read the
initial e-mails about Ohio's legislature "hearing" Ohio's citizens, I
was thrilled -- as I am sure all of you were. And, since we were asked
to pare down our advocacy calls, I was wondering, how do I retrieve the
hundreds if not thousands of flyers we have distributed throughout our
county? Businesses have been calling, asking for the flyers to
distribute to their customers. I have never seen such an outcry of
community response! Bob, our head of maintenance, has made it his duty
to copy and distribute stacks of 5x7 flyers... but it would be
logistically impossible for our small library staff to retrieve them --
not to mention the fact that we do not really know who all has them.

But now, flash forward to this latest e-mail from OLC regarding the
Governor's statement. I think I'll just not worry about retrieving
those flyers right now. We'll not distribute any more, but my people
(isn't is strange how we ''claim" our service populations as "our
people"?) -- my people want to feel they are making a difference in
state government. They want to feel their voice is being heard. Many of
these folks would never pick up the phone regarding another issue, but
when you pick on their public library, well that's enough to ruffle the
feathers of anyone.

I'll anxiously await OLC's advice as to what - if any - further
direction we should take our advocacy. I wish you a safe and cool
holiday week. Many of us will be out and about and I just do not want
anyone else to fall, or suffer any type of annoying accident or injury!

Happy Reading,

Susan
