Since I reqested information on the OPLINLIST about the use of electronic cash registers, several people were interested and asked that I post to the list what information I discovered. Due to the security requirements to having an electronic cash register interface with our circulation system, our IT manager and I visited a local Staples store and just selected a cash register from them.
We selected two identical cash registers, one for each public service floor. The model is Sharp XE-A21S with programmable keys. Our IT coordinator has programmed it to sell plastic bags, green bags, fines, copies, faxes, flash drives, CD-RW drives, earbuds & headphones and the library book sale. Each programmed department can be run for daily, weekly or monthly totals in addition to printing out total receipts. It has a paper tape for a reciept that can be turned off if Horizon's receipt printer has printed a receipt for a fine. It does not interface with Horizon. FYI.
The cash registers were purchased after discussing a proposed machine with the bank who have their one credit card machines.
