At the State Library Board meeting today, March 26, 2009, the Board
passed a resolution regarding the funding of OPLIN and the Library for
the Blind and Physically Handicapped. You are all aware that the
Governor's budget recommendation was that these two services be funded
by the Public Library Fund rather than General Revenue Funds in the
upcoming fiscal biennium. Both remain in the State Library budget.
The State Library Board resolution itself can be found at

nding
The bottom line of this resolution is this:
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that on this day, March 26, 2009, the State
Library Board, providing services and support to all types of libraries
in the state, including public libraries, and to state government,
respectfully requests that the Ohio General Assembly consider the
continuance of the statutory funding formula for local public libraries,
and not fund the expenses of Ohio Public Library Information Network
(OPLIN) or the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped out of
the Public Library Fund; and that funding for OPLIN and the Library for
the Blind and Physically Handicapped remain part of the General Revenue
Fund.
By the way, the State Library Board also passed a resolution re:
National Library Week. It can be found under Board Resolutions 2009.
