THE OHIO EBOOK PROJECT IS NOW OPEN FOR ENROLLMENT

Are you interested in providing an affordable digital materials
collection to your patrons? If yes, contact Nicole Merriman at the
State Library of Ohio, oep at sloma.state.oh.us, by Wednesday, December 16,
2009 to inquire about enrolling in the Ohio eBook Project (OEP). All
libraries in Ohio that can meet the requirements are welcome to enroll.

The Ohio eBook Project (OEP) includes thirty-seven libraries that have
access to 10,000 copies of over 7,000 titles. This multi-type library,
statewide project allows Ohio libraries to provide digital materials to
their patrons at a considerable savings because the State Library pays
the maintenance fees. All member libraries add to and share the digital
materials collection. Visit the OEP web site at
http://ohdbks.lib.overdrive.com to view the collection. The vendor for
this consortium is OverDrive, Inc., an Ohio company providing
downloadable digital materials to libraries throughout the world.

In order to join the Ohio eBook Project, your library needs to:
* Pay a $1,500.00 one time set-up fee to OverDrive, Inc.
* Be SIP/SIP2, Patron API, or RPA complaint. Talk to your ILS vendor
about upgrading and ask if any costs are involved. EZproxy is another
option we may be able to work with.
* For the first membership year, pledge 1% of your print book, monograph
and AV collection budget to purchasing materials for the OEP, with a
maximum pledge of $15,000 and a minimum of $500. After the first full
membership year, the pledge amount drops to .5% of this portion of your
budget, with a maximum of $10,000 per year and a minimum of $500. For
each title that your library purchases that is new to the OEP, there is
also a $1.50 fee for the accompanying MARC record.
* Agree that all digital materials will be added to the shared OEP
collection. Agree that any books your library purchases for the OEP
collection will remain in the OEP collection in the event that your
library leaves the OEP.

The eBooks are in Adobe PDF and Mobipocket Reader formats. Most audio
books and music are in Windows Media Audio (WMA) format, and video is in
Windows Media Video (WMV) format. In addition, the consortium has a
growing collection of MP3 audio books. Patrons can download the Ohio
eBook Project materials from computers in their homes or offices. At
additional cost, your patrons can download on a computer in the library.

New this year! Using the OverDrive Media Console, most audio books can
now be transferred to iPhones and iPods!
