Posted on behalf of Larry Hamilton-

Ohio author and historian Larry Hamilton has donated 10 ARCS of his book
Lucy's Story for distribution to Ohio Libraries on US Cargo. The first 10
libraries that reply with their cargo info off list will get one sent out.

Description of the book:

Lucy's Story is the tale of a young slave girl growing up in Kentucky during
the Civil War. When Lucy is whipped by her new master, her family runs
away, finding shelter at the Union's Camp Nelson. Here Lucy gets her first
taste of what freedom means, finds friends and romance, and faces the harsh
conditions experienced by former slaves in a nation torn apart by war and
slavery. This story is a fictionalized account of actual events, based upon
oral history interviews the author conducted with his grandmother. It is a
loving tribute and a moving story that presents the harsh realities that
African Americans, both free and slave, dealt with during this tumultuous
period. The author does not gloss over the cruelty and deaths Lucy
witnesses, but these situations are juxtaposed by the joys Lucy and her
family find. Lucy is sustained by her family, friends, several mentors, and
her faith. It is well written and thoroughly researched.
