*Your Library, Your Community*

*November 10, 2010*

*OCLC Online Computer Library Center**, Dublin, OH*

Six of your library organizations in Ohio have collaborated on *Your
Library, Your Community*, a joint education event to be held November 10 at
The Conference Center at OCLC in Dublin.

OHIONET, the Ohio Library Council, NEO-RLS, NORWELD, SERLS, and SWON
Libraries have worked together to bring you a day of learning focused on
libraries as the center of their local communities and how to make your
libraries integral destinations in community life.

The keynote speaker for this event, Elisabeth Doucett, is Director of the
Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick, Maine, and author of the book, *Creating
Your Library Brand: Communicating Your Relevance and Value to Your
Patrons*<http://www.alastore.ala.org/detail.aspx?ID=2420>
*. *Doucett will discuss library trends and her recently published
article<http://americanlibrariesmagazine.org/features/05112010/10-tips-tracking-trends>in
*American Libraries*. Her presentation is entitled, “Trend Tracking: A Tool
to Help Your Library Better Serve the Needs of Your Community.”

Other programming efforts will focus on using demographics and marketing to
build a collection that mirrors your community make-up, examining the
principles of Web 3.0 to continue to offer excellent customer service, and
how the lessons we learn as children teach us about the best ways to
cooperate, collaborate, and share with each other to build better libraries.

Additionally, renowned author and advocate, Marilyn Johnson, will
participate in the day via a special Skype presentation. Johnson will talk
about how her latest book, *This Book Is Overdue: How Librarians and
Cybrarians Can Save Us
All*<http://www.harpercollins.com/books/This-Book-Overdue-Marilyn-Johnson/?isbn=9780061431609>,
led her to library advocacy efforts across the country. She will also
discuss how her advocacy work culminated in a July 2010 *Los Angeles
Times*op-ed entitled “U.S.
Public Libraries: We Lose Them at Our
Peril<http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-johnson-libraries-20100706,0,5371729.story>.”

Thanks to a grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services
(IMLS), awarded by the State Library of Ohio, registration for this event is
only $60. OCLC has generously provided meeting space to serve as the host
site for this education event.

Please mark your calendar for November 10. A registration website, program
summaries, and speaker biographies will be published in the next few weeks.
