[OPLINLIST] Grand opening

Hello colleagues,

Delaware County District Library will be opening a new 33,000 square foot
branch in spring 2011.  We have been discussing when our grand opening
should be and what it would look like.  From your experiences, please let me
know the following:

What day of the week and what time would you hold the grand opening?
How long would the grand opening last?
Would you be open to the public the day of the grand opening or use the
occasion to showcase the building and open to the public the following day?
What sort of gift have you given or would you give away to commemorate such
an occasion?

Any other advice?  Horror stories?  Pitfalls?
