Leon Bey recently retired from our library after 30 years of working
general reference and local history reference. He is available to speak
on a number of Dayton area history topics. He and a retired history
teacher, Nancy Roach, also give walking tours of Downtown Dayton which
have been very well received.
One of his lecture topics is:
Miami & Erie Canal in Downtown Dayton--historic canal-era photographs of
buildings still on the route of the old canal plus canal-era music. The
story of how Dayton became a boomtown--celebrate the 180th anniversary
year of the opening of the canal to Dayton.
Everyone loves the picture of the visiting elephant taking a bath in the
canal.
He also speaks about Annie Oakley, Dayton's Gypsies, Abraham Lincoln,
Shakers, and many more topics.
