Every spring, the American Library Association sponsors National
Library Legislative Day in Washington, D.C. - a time for librarians and
library advocates to learn more about the issues facing libraries and to
visit their Congressional delegations to talk about their concerns. On
this day, hundreds of librarians (along with Friends and Trustees) will
make their way to Washington, D.C., to visit with their senators and
representatives to discuss library issues.

For one year only, Library Advocacy Day <http://www.ala.org/lad> will
replace National Library Legislative Day (NLLD). On June 29, 2010,
thousands of library staff, Friends, Trustees, and library advocates
from all 50 states and Washington, D.C., will meet at Upper Senate Park
on the U.S. Capitol grounds. The event, which will begin at 11 a.m.,
will feature guest speakers, photo ops, and a chance to cheer on
libraries. After the rally, which is free and open to the public,
participants will meet with their elected officials and their staffs.
For more information, including how to register and identify your state
coordinator to get involved with congressional meetings, visit
www.ala.org/lad.

So the trip to Washington isn't in your budget? No problem! ALTAFF will
sponsor Virtual Library Advocacy Day. By calling and/or e-mailing your
elected officials in Washington and asking them to vote for libraries,
you can make a difference. Just five minutes of your time will help
support and strengthen the efforts of the library supporters in
Washington rallying on June 29. If you cannot call or e-mail your
elected official on June 29, please do so sometime between June 28-July
2.

by a full-time state certified school librarian.
-Allow state and local professional development funds to be used
for recruiting and training school librarians.

	Broadband access for all:
-Support the Access to Twenty-first Century Communications and
Video Accessibility Act of 2009 (H.R. 3101 and S. 3304).
