Magda El-Sherbini has served as the Head of the Cataloging Department at
The Ohio State University Libraries since 1996 and has been at OSU since
1987. In addition to having several articles published, Magda
El-Sherbini also currently acts as an adjunct professor for the Kent
State Library and Information Science Masters program, where she teaches
coursed in cataloging and organization of information. 

	
Program Description:
RDA (Resource Description and Access) is the new cataloging standard
that will replace the AACR, and was released in late June 2010. The
objective of this workshop is to provide catalogers and other library
staff with basic understanding of RDA and major issues involved in its
implementation. It will focus on the basic structure of RDA, RDA core
elements, introduction to FRBR (Functional Requirements for
Bibliographic Records ) and FRAD (Functional Requirements for Authority
Data). It will compare RDA and AACR2, and will explain the RDA Toolkit.
There will be many real-world examples and classroom activities to
illustrate the concept of RDA to the class. Please bring your questions,
as they help to spur classroom discussion.
